Ultrasonic flowmeter refers to a flowmeter based on the principle that the ultrasonic propagation speed in the flowing medium is equal to the average velocity of the measured medium and the vector sum of the velocity of the sound wave in the stationary medium, mainly composed of transducers and converters, there are different types of Doppler method, velocity difference method, beam offset method, noise method and correlation method. Ultrasonic flowmeter has the following characteristics:


(1) Ultrasonic flowmeter can be used for non-contact measurement. Clamping transducer Ultrasonic flowmeter can be installed without stopping the flow pipe, as long as the transducer is installed outside the existing pipe. This is the unique advantage of ultrasonic flow meters in industrial flow meters, so it can be used for mobility (that is, non-fixed-point fixed installation) measurement, and is suitable for evaluation and measurement of pipe network flow conditions.


(2) Ultrasonic flowmeter is no flow obstruction measurement, no additional pressure loss.


(3) Ultrasonic flowmeter is suitable for large circular pipelines and rectangular pipelines, and is not limited by pipe diameter in principle, and can be considered as the preferred choice in the case of unable to achieve real flow verification.


(4) Ultrasonic flowmeters can measure non-conductive liquids, and are a supplement to electromagnetic flowmeters in terms of unobstructed flow measurement.


(5) Some travel time ultrasonic flowmeters are equipped with the function of measuring the travel time of sound waves, which can measure the liquid sound speed to determine the type of liquid being measured. For example, if a tanker pumps oil ashore, it can be verified whether it is the oil being measured or the bin water.


(6) The travel time ultrasonic flowmeter can only be used to clean liquids and gases.


(7) Ultrasonic flowmeters with external clamped transducers can not be used for pipelines with too thick lining or scaling, nor can they be used for pipelines where the lining (or rust layer) is stripped from the inner pipe wall (if there is gas in the sandwich, the ultrasonic signal is severely damped) or the corrosion is serious (changing the ultrasonic propagation path).
